Douglas Kim, a final tablist from the biggest ever WSOP Main Event in 2006 who earned $2.4m for his 7th place finish has produced a sitcom entitled “Just Doug” based on his life as a struggling Asian-American actor in L.A. The (so far) three part series has recently been featured in the “Today’s Spotlight” section of the Facebook Watch platform and is garnering some great reviews.

After his multi-million dollar success at the WSOP, Duke Economics graduate Kim decided to use his new found wealth to pursue a career as an actor, moving to L.A. from his native New York in 2008, despite being warned of the pitfalls of such a life decision.

During his years as an aspiring actor Doug found that the naysayers had pretty much been right and that despite doing everything in his powers to further his acting career he wasn’t getting anywhere. In his blog, Doug says that while making it in Hollywood is hard enough as it is, that he found that for an Asian-American it is even harder. He says that the most likely way for somebody like him to make it in the entertainment business is to create his own content, hence his self-penned sitcom, “Just Doug”.

Just Doug chronicles Doug’s trials and tribulations as a struggling Asian-American actor trying to get his big break in Hollywood. Kim said he was inspired by watching Louis C.K’s show “Louie” which shows Louie doing stand up sets interwoven with moments from his life. He felt that a semi-autobiographical look at his life through a lens could be worthy of a sitcom.

Kim co-wrote, executive produced and starred in the series, which at the moment comprises a total of 26 minutes high quality content over three mini-episodes, although Doug has prepared a show bible for an entire season if the show ever gets picked up by a network – Kim’s ultimate aim.

Doug, who posts under the name technologic on 2+2 shared the news of his series on the popular poker forum, his ambitions, and his show being picked for the “Today’s Spotlight” section on Facebook Watch.
