Espen Sandvik has won the €2,500 8-Game Mix for €75,246. The Norwegian picked up the fourth WSOP gold bracelet at this years WSOP Europe and more than trebled his live tournament earnings record.

Phil Hellmuth came close to collecting that elusive 16th gold bracelet but had to settle for third and a step closer to $15 million lifetime winnings. Jeff Madsen was another star who came close but busted out in fourth behind Hellmuth.

Other notable names in the 71-strong field included Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom, Eli Elezra, Allen Kessler, and Daniel Negreanu.

Final Table

Sandvik kicked off the final table stage with an already large chip lead over the other five players. Germans Jochen Kaiser and Thomer Pidun were out straight after dinner after colliding with Sandvik. The Norwegian was on a roll, and he clearly wasn’t done yet.

Jeff Madsen was the next victim. A man with more than $5.5 million in live winnings couldn’t withstand the Norwegian hurricane.

Down to the final three, Sandvik almost had all of the chips sat in front of him. The problem, at least in his eyes, was that he might have to prove his worth against a 15-time WSOP gold bracelet winner heads-up for the title.

In the end it wasn’t an issue. Twenty minutes later, Hellmuth check-called away most of his stack in 2-7 triple draw and was out the next hand.

And the very next hand it was all over. Ville Haavisto facing an 18-1 chip disadvantage got his chips in still playing triple draw. He lasted until the final draw but paired and Sandvik was champion.
