A British recreational poker player by the name of James “James23C” Carmichael became the latest partypoker millionaire earlier this week when he hit the jackpot in a $5 SPINS tournament.

Carmichael bought into the $5 SPINS $1M tournament along with Mexico’s “elielalbiter” and “nilverlobo” who calls Peru home. A few moments after the three-handed hyper-turbo sit & go filled, the partypoker software randomly selected the prize pool multiplier, stopping on 240,000 times the initial buy-in, meaning the trio of players would share $1.2 million.

This monster-sized sum would see second and third place each walk away with $100,000 and the eventual champion add $1 million to their partypoker account.

Only 11 hands into the tournament, Carmichael found ace-king when a short-stacked nilverlobo moved all in with pocket nines. An ace on the turn and king on the river were enough to reduce the player count by one and move Carmichael one step closer to a seven-figure prize.

Eight hands later, the fateful hand occurred. Holding pocket sixes, elielalbiter moved all in for a handful of big blinds, Carmichael called with king-nine of diamonds and looked on as the board came , the eight of diamonds on the turn being enough to bust his opponent and secure the $1 million payout.

Both British tabloids The Sun and The Mirror reported on the event.

On what he intends to do with his newfound wealth, Carmichael said he will look into investing the money to secure his long-term future and will continue to play on partypoker, according to the partypoker blog.
