It may not be an official poll, but partypokers Sunday $1million GTD put PokerStars Sunday Million firmly in the shade when players were asked which they would choose if there could be only one!

As we reported earlier the partypoker $1million GTD Sunday biggie is making a return after 13 years in the wilderness, with a few special tweaks to appeal to the masses.

These include the option of playing the opening stages of the $215 buy-in tournament a few days early, or instead making a big run at the prizes exclusively on the Sunday.

The PokerStars version, launched at much the same time as partypoker’s was forced out due to the UIGEA mess in the USA, celebrated its 13th birthday earlier this year.

Since its inaugural outing there has been little or no competition for Stars on a Sunday evening, but Rob Yong has decided to give it a go anyway, a trial run that would become a permanent fixture if players support it in enough numbers.

This year has shown signs that there are gaps in the market that partypoker are willing to take a chance on and step in, the PokerStars decision to cut their Sunday Million buy-in from $215 to $109 not quite working out as well as expected.

Last month PokerStars saw a $100k+ overlay as player numbers slumped to an all-time low, despite the buy-in drop intended to appeal to “more and more players.”

Support for partypoker’s attempt to reintroduce the prestigious Sunday tournament was evident on Twitter…

…while as always there was plenty of input and constructive discussion, a hallmark of this year’s more hands-on, player-friendly approach from partypoker.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, of course, and it will be interesting to see if straw polls and player promises turn into tournament entries. Naturally, we’ll bring you all the latest as and when it happens.
